About Us
The Louisiana Gastroenterology Society (LGS) serves as a professional home for practicing gastroenterologists across the state of Louisiana, fostering collaboration, education, and advocacy in support of excellence in patient care and digestive health.
Founded in 2002 by a dedicated group of Louisiana gastroenterologists, LGS was established to advance the scientific study and medical practice of diseases of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, while also serving as an organizational force and catalyst for thoughtful political and professional engagement within Louisiana’s GI community.
The Society promotes the highest standards in medical education and professional development while remaining responsive to the evolving needs of its membership. LGS is guided by a commitment to supporting clinical GI practitioners throughout Louisiana—providing opportunities for continuing education, professional connection, and a collective voice on issues affecting gastroenterology practice at both the state and national levels.
LGS was founded with strong representation from Louisiana-based gastroenterology fellowship training institutions, reflecting its close ties to academic medicine and its role in supporting the broader GI ecosystem within the state. These institutional partnerships continue to strengthen collaboration between academic centers and practicing physicians and contribute to the advancement of gastroenterology in Louisiana.
Through educational programming, annual scientific meetings, and advocacy efforts, the Louisiana Gastroenterology Society remains dedicated to advancing GI care, supporting its members, and strengthening the profession for the benefit of patients statewide.
